World Suicide Prevention Day
World Suicide Prevention Day
On this page, we usually share the good things happening at the centre — the activities, the community, the people and the moments that make us smile. But social media only ever shows part of the picture.
Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, we want to acknowledge that behind the highlights, many people are struggling. Mental health difficulties can affect any of us, and sometimes we keep our heads down, carry on and simply try to get through the day.
It shouldn’t have to be that way.
Sometimes what we need isn’t a solution. It might be someone to listen, someone to sit with us, help finding the right organisation, or simply somewhere warm and welcoming to spend some time outside our four walls.
Ruthrieston Community Centre is here for our community.
We provide our foodbank, our Friday café and activities, but we are also here to listen. Sometimes a problem shared really can feel a little lighter.
You don't have to have the right words. You don't have to explain everything. And you don't have to wait until things become overwhelming before reaching out.If we aren't open, there are professional services available too:
Samaritans — 116 123
Free, confidential and available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Breathing Space — 0800 83 85 87
Monday–Thursday: 6pm–2am
Friday 6pm–Monday 6am.And if you are in immediate danger or unable to keep yourself safe, please call 999 or go to your nearest A&E.
You are not a burden. You are not alone.
It is okay to ask for help.
Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is tell someone that we aren't okay.
