Who we are
Ruthrieston Community Centre is a welcoming community hub at the heart of Ruthrieston, providing a place where people of all ages can meet, learn, connect and thrive.
As a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) (Registered Charity No. SC044026), the centre is overseen by a dedicated Board of Trustees made up of local volunteers who are passionate about supporting the community.
The day-to-day running of the centre is managed by our Centre Manager, supported by an incredible team of volunteers. Many of the activities, events and community projects we offer simply wouldn’t be possible without their time, skills and commitment.
We’re always keen to hear your ideas, suggestions and feedback as we continue to develop the centre to meet the changing needs of our community.
Our Story, 150 Years of Community
For over 150 years, our building has been an important part of the Ruthrieston community.
Originally built around 1875 as a local school under the Old Machar School Board, it educated generations of children and later served as a school for pupils with additional learning needs. Following the Second World War, it became part of Ruthrieston Secondary School and continued as an educational building for many decades.
Around 15 years ago, the building began a new chapter when local trustees took over its management, transforming it into the vibrant community centre it is today. Their vision was to preserve this much-loved building and create a welcoming space where local residents could come together, access services, enjoy activities and build stronger community connections.
Today, Ruthrieston Community Centre continues that legacy by providing an inclusive space that belongs to the community and is shaped by the people who use it.
