After more than a year of planning, paperwork and perseverance, our solar panels are finally on the roof!
This project has only been possible thanks to funding from the Just Transition Participatory Budget (JTPB) Fund, and we'd like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us along the way.
First and foremost, a huge thank you to our centre users, local residents and supporters who voted for our project. Without your votes, none of this would have happened.
We'd also like to thank Jamie at NESCAN for his guidance and encouragement throughout the funding application process. From helping us navigate the paperwork to offering advice on gathering community votes, his support was invaluable.
A special thank you also goes to Matt Clubb of MWClubb Architect Design, who has given me a crash course in building retrofit and helped us understand how we can make our historic community centre more energy efficient for the future.
Finally, thank you to the companies who brought the project to life. Sugaplumb installed our solar panels, while Darren at Asset Integrity fitted the natural wool insulation that was also funded through the grant. Their expertise has made a real difference to the building.
The work doesn't stop here. Matt is currently carrying out a full retrofit survey of the building, funded through NESCAN's LEAF Fund. This will help us identify the next improvements we can make, and we hope to apply to the JTPB Fund again to continue our journey towards a warmer, more energy-efficient and sustainable community centre.
So, watch this space—there's more to come!
